Is the image of Siva Nataraja on p.302 of Baksheesh mistakenly reversed? Compared to Campbell's description - drum in extended right hand, etc. - in Hero, it appears so. Sorry for being tedious.... Not tedious at all! Well spotted. Looks like the sort of change that a designer made to make the page...

Re: historical atlas question & new publication: goddess

Great questions. 1) I'm not an anthropologist, but I've read of the controversy over the Tasaday. Will the digital version of the Historical Atlas - "Living People of the Equatorial Forest - The Ancestral Caves of the Tasaday" section - be edited in any way to address this? After much debate, we dec...

David Miller's Gods & Games coming soon!

So, in addition to overseeing the publications program for the JCF for... a long time, I am also running a small publishing and publishing services firm, Stillpoint Digital Press . We've put out a number of wonderful print, audiobook, and ebook titles, many of which are very Campbellian in nature. B...

Thanks Clemsy! I will have a gander:) Don't know if the terrible pun was intended, but if it was, I salute you, your majesty! I will point out that the crowning achievement of Campbell's work as a comparative mythologist was the sadly unfinished Historical Atlas of World Mythology . The science is ...

In a more Campbellian vein: I mentioned on Facebook that I had noticed that the filmmakers did a great job of evoking mythological themes -- specifically, they do a great job of invoking Goddess symbolism around Galadriel: http://i2.cdnds.net/12/48/618x434/movies_the_hobbit_still_1.jpg Clemsy and I ...

I'm a member of SAG, though I haven't performed in quite a while. You know, as tough as an actor's life can be, the perks can occasionally be pretty terrific. ;-)

And I'll be seeing it again. Preciousssss...

I'm curious, how did Campbell label his own method? Anything other than comparative mythology/religion? Cindy Good question. Here's what Campbell himself had to say: Resolution: Comparative mythology (philology, in the German sense) is indeed my field—and the method is to be first of all philologic...
