DVD Finding Joe

The Conversation with a Thousand Faces."

Hi Freerk, Thought of this thread the other day while reading the JCF' new release, Goddesses: Mysteries of the Feminine Divine. In chapter 7, Mysteries of Transformation, Campbell discusses what the initiation mysteries might have been for boys (Dionysian) and girls (Eleusinian): In the second (Fi...

Wow, That's a great website! Thank you for that Cindy. As far as I can see, as we say in the Netherlands, you hit the nail on the head. I think this is what Campbell meant. Most of the images on the website are indeed from the 19th century, so that would correct too. This turned out to be a very int...

It looks like your probably right Myrtle. It is indeed exactly what Campbell described. There is only one remaining that is a bit confusing to me. From what he tells, he suggest that there are more paintings like this one and that the graveyard vision is a theme that was used by several artists.

Maybe we're in the wrong century...? Death themes in art (with corpses, skeletons, fear of) were prominent in the late Medieval period in Western Europe and into the early Renaissance, for instance. :? I don't think so. Campbell absolutely mentioned the 19th century. In that era there was also a fa...

As I wrote in the first post Campbell talked about these paintings in part 2 of the Mythos II series: Enlightened One - The Buddha and enlightenment. He is telling here the story of the life of the Buddha. He mentioned the graveyard vision after he told that the Buddha decided to become a yogi. Here...

:D Thanks, it looks like a good example, although I can't really see a mirror where the woman is looking at., but at least I have a artist's name now and can look further from there. If anybody has more example, it will be ever so welcome.
