I was browsing through the site earlier, and came across the word "Abenaki". I'm currently doing a bit of research to satisfy my curiosity, and my love for learning, and discovered the tribe has a strong storytelling culture.
So if there's anybody out there who know any good stories that the Abenaki told to their kids or any story, post it up here. I'm wanting to learn more about this tribe as well. so anything will do.

Shamin,

Mark and I are connected with the Bruchac family here in upstate NY, who are of Abenaki descent. Joe Bruchac is a renowned author and storyteller. HERE's a list of his work.

Mark and I are fortunate to be able to hear Joe and his son Jim relate Abenaki and other Native tales.

Indeed, there's going to be a huge festival up here, that our Mark has helped organize (Perhaps 'helped' doesn't do him justice. He's been burning the candle at both ends.) LINK (Note: Mark constructed that website. Clever lad, no?)

Oy! Yes, that festival is the reason I'm disappearing from the boards for a few days! In your research, you might be interested in looking up the Vermont Abenaki - they just recently gained State recognition as a tribe (after a loooong struggle in the courts).

And, if you happen to be in the Upstate NY area this next weekend, stop in at the Saratoga Native American Festival (Clemsy mentioned above)! We've got Jim, Joe, Marge, and Jesse Bruchac performing, as well as a few Abenaki demonstrators and presenters on board.

Best of luck,
Mark
