I would STRONGLY urge all those who peruse these boards to go see the new film "The Fountain" by Darren Aronofsky. It had a very low opening weekend gross (being an indie film trying to compete with the likes of Deja Vu and Happy Feet), and so if you want to catch it before it gets pulled you had better spring in the next week, or two at the latest. It is, however, a PHENOMENAL film filled with terrific imagery and speaks to the very heart of the human condition. It was billed in the trailer as a sort of epic romance, but this is really not what it is about at all. It's about embracing death and mortality as a form of creation, and the futility of trying to hold onto to life too tightly. While I was watching it (twice now, in 5 days) I couldn't help but think of Campbell's charge to create a new mythology, even though it's the mayan creation myth that is featured prominetly. If you have even a passing interest in Campbell or mythology in general, I think you will find it to be one of the best films you've seen in quite a while. If you've seen it let me know and discuss! I have a rather lengthy interpretation of the film but I'll wait to post it until I get some replies here. <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif"> Look forward to discussing this with you all!

That movie looks very promising!

I had not heard of it - thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will share my thoughts when I see it.

It is good to see the imagination and soul of man begin to use this wonderful technology to bring mythic themes to life.

Imagine, the next Dante, reincarnated in our generation, using the medium of film to express the unspeakable he once beheld in a woman...

I saw the movie saturday night. I was also thinking about posting the same but im glad nights watch did it because it looks like you did a better job incorperating it all.

The main point of the movie is the fight against death. The main mythic point is the mayan view of death as creation. I dont want to give away the movie so ill go into it later on
