Planet Earth and the Next Mythology

Post by Samarra »

In just over a week, billionaire Guy Laliberte, creator of Cirque du Soleil, will be going into outerspace to stay on the International Space Station. He is planning to read poetry inspired by the Earth:

Artists in space? What a great way to awaken the mythological mind of humanity. Joe always said that the next mythology would probably have the Earth as its icon.

Any thoughts?

When has the Earth not been the icon for mythology? Have we not been inspired by the Earth since the begining even though we had no idea how large and magnificent it really was at the time? What would be after that the whole universe?

Out of ones senses is correct! How can we take in the entire world as a mythological icon and transmute it to all. There are 6 billion diferent ways of living life on this Earth. A single icon for the whole world is a wonderful meditation, however; it will still come down to each of our own personal mythologies which will unite the world as one.

Back in the seventies Pigs in Space was the pinnacle of our societies growth. Now we have Artists in space! What could be better than that?......other than artist pigs in space.

Really, I wish all of us could experience the world from space. Looking onto the Earth from miles up. The chance will widen as time goes on. Now very few people have had that experience. Those who have gone all concede a change in their view on life. A larger perspective will usually cause this to happen. Sending an artist, I think, is a great idea. Perhaps a poet as well.

The following link's about one of the first
artworks on the Moon. Strangely enough,
that's a piece of sculpture by Belgian artist
Paul Van Hoeydonck and commemorates
the Heros who have lost their lives in the
furtherance of space exploration.

Have you seen the end of Mel Brook's "History of the World Part 1" ? :D

Last week was Yuri Gagarin's and NASA's anniversary one of
these days. I don't think we're alone but apparently we need to do some
housecleaning before we can meet our interplanetary neighbors :-)
