When has the Earth not been the icon for mythology? Have we not been inspired by the Earth since the begining even though we had no idea how large and magnificent it really was at the time? What would be after that the whole universe?
As long as the human species and their evolutionary progeny are in any way connected to the earth, there will be mythology and iconography centered upon our planet.

That said, the earth's gaining our primary attention for any length of time is neither possible nor desirable......unless she becomes an imminent threat. The effects wrought by the industrial revolution have provoked her to the point where catastrophic global climate chaos could occur within 10-30 years.
