I think this sentence sums it up perfectly :
Mind is what leads us into the unknown, and a monistic understanding of that, seems very perennial. – boringguy
Perhaps the real question is not ‘what is mind’, but rather ‘what is emotion' - that makes one desire to know things - and how does it emerge’?

p.s.

This is just to say sorry to Romansh, Neoplato and Nandu as I must admit that I wasn't in a hurry to answer posts in the past couple of days when I could not trust my own understanding of what people actually mean behind their smilies.

Well, when I use a smiley I generally mean what the smiley represents. The wink, of course, means it is partialy tongue in cheek... which happens in my case many a time.

Mind seems to be an intellectuals play park. A place to dream play be what you want and then examine and discuss others park. Theorise criticise generalize and at the end of the day nobody minds and tomorrow is another day.

I think that most of what we 'know' as mind is just egoic and/or cyclic thoughts – ideas that are in a holding-pattern of sorts, just bouncing around our consciousness... I think very few of us actually access the greater mind, but to me, there's no point where our mind ends and the greater collective mind begins ... it's one and the same ... except that we get so "me" focussed and keep listening to those cyclic old thoughts and belief systems that we actually think that's who we are -- the sum total of who we are. But the possibilities of diving into the collective/cosmic mind are much more exciting (certainly more illuminating!) ... don't you think?
