I came across this article on testing for " mental depression " and thought it might be worth sharing. Not being a professional I can only speculate as to whether it may prove valid as a tool for treatment; but it seems to have promise or offer a step in the right direction.

This is another step in the right direction, James. For decades all sorts of neurotransmitters, vitamins, metals, etc. have been investigated and are known to contribute in some way to depression. (I'm one of those folks who also takes folic acid, by the way.)
P.S. I see that you're feeling much better now. Good news!

Mythologist, author, and founder of Mosaic Voices Michael Meade; is featured in this great article about using Myth to help with the healing of war veterans suffering from PTSD. ( A really nice piece. )

Addendum: ( To get any real sense of the " power and depth " of what this article is truly about you should watch the video. )

I'm posting a short message concerning this thread just to make it visible for the time being because Cindy has left so many extremely good links over the span of the thread about the various areas related in different ways to the subject of suicide that I thought if anyone is interested they might be helpful. The internet and media are all buzzing about Robin Williams death at the moment and it seems there is quite a bit of interest in this for now.
If anything good can come of this tragedy perhaps it this concern and interest that is being generated that will be of benefit for all; because IMHO it is the lack of knowledge that is the most harmful and spreads fear and ignorance which are of themselves detrimental to the welfare of all society. Mental health issues can happen to anyone and indeed affect everyone. I hope those who want to know more will take a moment to peruse some of what she has recommended; for I have been revisiting some of these earlier posts and have just been amazed at what I myself missed the first time through.
This link is related to directly to the subject of suicide.

Cindy may have other suggestions to add but these look to be some of the main ones.

This is a very interesting article that highlights the public's misconception about just who and how many people there are in what one might call " normal " public society functioning today.

IMHO not only is this also one of the main reasons that the Jungian insights Joe talks about are so relative within modern society today; but also why Joseph Campbell's theme's are so very important in helping people to find out what it is that's ticking inside them; sorting it out; and addressing it.
( I also came across this piece concerning " Depression " which I thought was interesting. Since this is Cindy territory she may have some thoughts to share. )
