Hey everyone. I've been sick and am just now starting to feel better and get back into things. I saw this movie last night; ( wow! ) " Vivian Maier's " personal story; although sad, lonely, and socially dysfunctional; leaves behind a remarkable body of work as her legacy. And the story of it's discovery and how it unfolded is part of it's mystery. ( Awesome ).

I came across this particular article that immediately caught my attention with it's powerful imagery. But I was even more moved by Adam Hague's aka ( Adam Hassnal Sulaiman ) story of personal transformation. ( Be forewarned that some of the subject matter contained within his portfolio may be disturbing. ) But what I found fascinating was the transcendent nature of the personal viewpoint he is able to establish; and the ability to reference and mix different avenues of perception to evoke a connection within the viewers individual subjective sensibilities that makes his approach so interesting and unique.

Addendum: I also came upon this separate link cross-referenced within this ( Flicker ) stream which in my opinion is a wonderful example of " Street Photography ". Zun Lee's aka ( eudæmon ) poignant personal story and his ability to extract the " Human " element from within the unfolding of it's surrounding realty is extraordinary.

Carmela; ( what a nice thing to say ); you are far too kind. Actually Al deserves a lot of credit for creating this thread. What I like about photography and the visual arts is the ability to communicate a powerful insight in a way like no other.CarmelaBear wrote:James, your discoveries enrich my life and bring joy. Thanks and thanks.

Interesting update about the work of Vivian Maier - http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/sl ... d=13506031
Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are a part of the mystery that we are trying to solve.

Thanks for sharing this Al.
I find it interesting that her work is worth so much more than when it was sitting in a storage locker and no one had a clue about this tremendous talent. ( Of course now it doesn't benefit " her " at all does it? ) She lived her life for her art at great cost of personal internal struggle; yet because of these folks the world has benefited from her legacy. ( Life's mystery can be so ironic at times; huh? )
This will be interesting to watch how it plays out; no?

Very nice Carmela.
Isn't it interesting the way an image can communicate or evoke a certain kind of mental and emotional response? And depending on the type it is suggest something completely out of the reality one is currently immersed in?
Here is a photo album link taken from a Leica camera forum I came across of a 1978/79 trip to Paris in black and white. This person's perspective from a earlier era to me conjures up a sort of " reflective timelessness " so often associated with a particular notion I have often imagined of the seductive lure of a leisurely " will-of-the-wisp " adventure while roaming this city in the pursuit of it's discovery.

I have been fascinated lately by the work of photographers Eugene Atget and Man Ray; both very different but connected through an interesting relationship of circumstance. Their influence on photography is immeasurable.

Also Berenice Abbott should be added to this list as she was an apprentice of Man Ray and was a major force in preservation of Atget's work. But more importantly she became one of the art's most significant photographers in her own right by her work on projects such as " Changing New York ".
