How cool it is to finally be back posting again!
(Hello everyone; for those unaware it's been a long time since many of us have been able to post because of the code issues and the age of the website. A sincere thank you must be given to all of those whose tireless efforts have resulted in the previous fund raising and the board's returning back to normal. I'll start off with something I think is very special I came across recently.)
"Alive Inside" is a very moving and powerful documentary that won the 2014 Sundance film festival audience award. It is a story about the use of a simple $40 IPOD audio player with each elderly patient's own personalized musical favorites programed into the device to help reconnect them with the world, their memories, and their sense of self or personhood which access had been lost to them from the devastating effects of Alzheimer's and Dementia. There is a stunning moment in the film where it becomes very apparent of how powerful the connection is between a person's sense-of-self is connected to music. And another important point is also brought to our attention that because people are now living longer the estimated analysis of the population numbers projected within the global paradigm for the elderly will overtake the numbered balance of the young who support them; ( what this means is that one in five people across the planet will be over the age of 65 by the year 2050); not an encouraging thought to contemplate.
On a more positive "note" however; this amazing new musical concept offers hope and promise for not only the patients but their families as well and IMHO an ability to look at the actual stages of life by helping to redefine the way we understand and approach the process of what aging into "Elderhood" might mean for the future.
(This is the video you need to see that explains the whole project and the unbelievable results that transpired. Truly an example of the "Hero's Journey".)

IMHO the issues highlighted within this documentary raise quite a few penetrating thoughts concerning Joseph Campbell's insights about how we view aging and our interconnection to each other as human beings as we look forward towards the future.

James,
First I would like comment on the forum by quoting Dr. Frankenstein. "It's alive! It's alive!"
On to your post. I find this amazing. IMHO it shows the power of beautiful sensation. Beautiful music and beautiful memories provide the inspiration to stay alive. Without the sound their DNA is just raw meat.
The actual documentary is on Netflix. We are going to watch it tonight.
It's good to read your thoughtful posts again.

Ron; it's so nice to hear your kind and thoughtful voice my friend. Yes it's great to have the boards back up and running again. Clemsy said Mark was able to provide a fix until the new website was up and running. I think it's only been a few days so it may take a little while for word to get out.
Yes we're finally back!
(Thank you Mark wherever you are!)
Ron I think you're really going to like this documentary. Very very moving!
