Validating quote about joy and pain

Post by BeoWevere »

"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain."

This quote is attributed everywhere to Joseph Campbell, but I cannot find a citation for when/where/if he said this. Is this 1) a JC quote and if so 2) what is the citation?

Thank you. I hate to use any quote from "inspirational quote" sites unless I can run down the actual citation.

Hi, BeoWevere, and welcome to the JCF Forums. I'm pretty confident that's a Campbell quote, but don't know where it's from. I'll ask those who probably do though.

Cheers,

Ask and you shall receive! David Kudler, JCF's managing editor and if anyone would know he would, says:
JC Companion, about halfway through in the section about Dante, hell, and the waste land.

Greetings BeoWevere; and welcome here!

You quote is the very last line on page ( 152 ) as Clemsy mentioned.

Cheers :)

Thank you! That gives me that last piece of information I need for my citation. I look forward to learning from this group. I know much more about Jung's work than Campbell's and am glad I stumbled on this site in my quest for this citation.
