I first came across this concept watching and reading the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, and was intrigued by the answer. I have over the last 5 years investigated the obsession with Climate Change, and now believe that I understand the Question to which the answer is 42

It wasn't a problem, truly. Besides, folks are more likely to find you here.
Have a great one!

I skimmed through your blog and got to:
Free Will, Energy, and Climate Change the Paradox
Being interested in the concept of free will I started reading ...
You described the Earth a closed system .... It is not!
The Earth is irradiated with a "high quality" energy which for the most part is reradiated as a lower "quality" infrared energy. The total energy balance is approximately equal. I agree any long term imbalance even small in the radiation will dramatically change the path of evolution.
But describing the Earth as a closed system is plain wrong from a thermodynamic point of view.
At best we could describe the Earth in a quasi steady state with its surroundings.Mike wrote:Because the earth is a closed system, the choices for heat and light are constrained.
"That's right!" shouted Vroomfondel, "we demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!"
hi Romansh,
I know what you mean, but from the perspective of the flora and fauna of the planet their choices are limited by the constraints of the carbon and water cycles and the external energy from the sun can be viewed as a constant and the choices then become constrained by the system. The system is effectively closed because the choices are defined by biology, we are essentially constructed from CO2 and H2O,and process CO2 and H2O
