Professor Campbell regarded the Chartres Cathedral as his "parish church",
(though he was not a member of any church).

These stone steps lead to a Shinto shrine in Ise, Japan Wiki.

Campbell mentions the shrines of Ise in his Asian travel journals, Sake and Satori.

Your welcome Carmela.

I can't quite remember where I read it; ( maybe " Power of Myth " ); but Joseph mentions spending so much time at Chartres that he correctly identified every single statue on the structure. He was even invited to ring the bells by the cathedral's concierge which he mentions was truly a thrilling moment in of his life. ( Just shows how special he thought this place was. ) The rendering of the all images; both inside and out; were what immediately caught my attention. You could almost be there seeing them through his eyes the site's presentation of them was so good. ) Glad you liked it; ( I did too. ) What a place huh?

Cheers :)

In Baksheesh and Brahman, Professor Campbell shares his travel experiences in his study of the exotic mythology of India. One of his first stops was in New Delhi, where he visited the Birla Temple, which he described as modern, progressive, and secular; a "transformation of an ancient religion".

It is also known as the Laxminarayan Temple, and it is a major tourist attraction in Delhi. It was built by a Hindu family and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1939.
