Has anyone seen this movie?

I feel it might be the first big budget Hollywood film to even remotely deal with the subjects of mythology and bliss.

I very much enjoyed I Heart Huckabees, though i'm sure it's not for everybody but what a delightful, metaphysical romp!

In terms of the mythology of one's personal life, i believe Big Fish (i think i have the title right) is a gem.

Any other suggestions for this list?

I'm sure this is bound to have been discussed, but did anyone else notice that the dying old man in Big Fish is reading The Hero with 1,000 Faces? I had just got the book for x-mas and was reading it when I saw the movie. I flipped out when I thought I recognized it, and thoroughly lost my calm (in the theater) when a certain shot confirmed 100% it was indeed the book.

I Heart Huckabees is definitely at the very top my list of favorite movies ever.

Big Fish is on the list as well. It seems most of the movies on this list of mine would also be appropriate to bring up here.

In answer to your question Boddhi, "The Truman Show" comes immediately to mind. There are many others, it will just take a lil bit for them to bubble up.

Davepots: what an interesting observation! Thanks for pointing that out. It seems absolutely appropriate of course.

Enjoy,

I think Big Fish was great not only for its shot of "Hero" but for its portrayal of a great storyteller.

How about the movie Donnie Darko, with themes of sacrifice, fate, good/evil, and plenty of archetypal images..

I highly recommend 'Waking Life'. It's a little obscure, but I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned.

Waking Life - great suggestion! Simply a must see movie. And what about that ending...((hoping to inspire curiosity in others)).
